![]() Central Maine Karate was founded in 1991 by Michael Smith. The class is located in the town of Corinth, ME home of Central High School, and having taken classes from Eastern Maine Self Defense and Mid-Maine Kick Boxing it seemed only appropriate that I call this new class Central Maine Karate. The class was first held in the old town hall for 10 years when we moved to the Powerline Prowlers Snowmobile Club. We stayed there for 3 years, until we found our present location. C.M.K. is currently located at 313 Main Street Corinth, ME, across from the Fire Station. GOALS It is the goal of CMK to produce the highest quality of Martial Artist. When you join C.M.K. we will provide you with a workout that not only will get your cardio up but also equip you with functional techniques for self defense. Our students portray good sportsmanship, respect for themselves as well as others, whether it is at a karate tournament, at school, at home, or out in the community. By gaining self respect, self control, and self discipline you will be able to take what you have learned here at C.M.K. and apply it to every aspect of your daily life. Expectations: It is the expectation that when you study here, you will be able to defend yourself and/or others if the need arises. Not only will you learn the physical techniques but you will also learn to assess the situation and the possibility of alternative action. Here at CMK we say 1. walk your way out, 2. talk your way out, 3. and finally use the physical force (only as a last resort). N.E.I.M.A.A.
